The leaders and members of the East Jamaica Conference (EJC) mourn the passing of Pastor Samuel Lewis, a stalwart pastor and former Family Ministries Director and Ministerial Secretary, who passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026.  He spent more than three decades of his life in ministry in the East Jamaica Conference.

The beloved retired Pastor Lewis leaves behind to mourn his wife, Metlyn; daughter Alanie; sons Samuel and Mark; and other family members.

EJC President, Pastor Meric Dale Walker, remembered Lewis as a faithful servant of God who loved the Lord and who loved his family passionately. “He would hardly be seen anywhere without his beloved wife, Metlyn Lewis by his side.  He will be greatly missed.”

Executive Secretary of the East Jamaica Conference, Pastor Melvin Francis, remembered Pastor Lewis as a faithful servant of God. “ He faithfully served in several key capacities, including District Pastor, Family Ministries Director, and Ministerial Secretary, making a lasting impact through his leadership and commitment to shaping the Church and passing on the legacy,” Francis said.

As a Ministerial Secretary,  Pastor Lewis nurtured many pastors and pastoral families. As a Church Pastor, he ministered to people from the cradle to the grave. He was a man of prayer and dignity. He was sincere, gentle, and generous.

“Pastor Lewis was the epitome of a rounded Pastor who made relevant the saying, 'humility is the hallmark of true greatness." He was an exemplary Shepherd in word and deed, ” Francis added.

The East Jamaica Conference is saddened by the passing of Pastor Samuel Lewis and invites the church to lift up his family in prayer and to ask the Lord to be their source of strength during this period of loss. We look forward to seeing our brother and friend on that great resurrection morning when the saints of God will be raised from the grave.

Revelation 14:13  gives us this assurance,  "And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them." Let us comfort each other with these words.
